Alpha Delta Pi, Xi Chapter at Ohio University
Alpha Delta Pi, nicknamed ADPi, was founded as the first women's fraternity on May 15, 1851 at Wesleyan Female College in Macon, Georgia. It was first named the Adelphean Society, a secret society focused on fellowship and scholarship. The sorority was founded on the principles of scholarship, leadership, service to others and sisterhood. These principles still guide the policies and programs of the sorority today. Alpha Delta Pi currently has over 140 chapters in the United States and Canada, and over 140 alumnae associations, and their Executive Office is located in Atlanta, Georgia. Its national philanthropy is the Ronald McDonald House Charities. The official colors are azure blue and white. Blue is symbolic of friendship, the basic spirit upon which Alpha Delta Pi was founded. White symbolizes sincerity and truth, two of the qualities in which Alpha Delta Pi looks for in its members. The 4-pointed Diamond is a symbol of balanced life when all 4 points of the diamond are represented. The four points stand for Sisterhood, Scholarship, Sorority, and self and we hold these values in every day situations at home and on campus or at jobs.
Over the course of our partnership, Alpha Delta Pi has contributed more than $5 million to this worthwhile cause. RMHC supports Ronald McDonald Houses, Care Mobiles, and Ronald McDonald Family Rooms in local communities and also funds grants to other nonprofit organizations whose programs focus on children in need. The women of Xi Chapter support the Ronald McDonald House located in Columbus, OH. The Columbus house is the second largest RMHC in the world behind NYC. Xi Chapter recently sponsored their very own room in the house for families to spend time together and relax. Today, more than 300 Ronald McDonald Houses in 52 countries help keep families with seriously ill or injured children together when they need it most by offering them a comfortable, temporary residence in proximity to a medical facility. In addition to donating money to this worthwhile cause, many Alpha Delta Pi collegiate chapters and alumnae associations spend their time and energy volunteering at these houses. The women of Xi Chapter have put together numerous fundraisers in which to raise money for Ronald McDonald House. For the last four years, we have had a Silent Auction in Columbus, OH. We will be hosting our Fifth Annual Silent Auction this spring with high hopes of raising more than last years $15,000. Coming soon our chapter will be hosting our Second Annual campus-wide male beauty pagean. This pageant brings both sorority and faternity into a common location in order to raise money for a great cause. We once again have high hopes in raising more than last year's $4,000 to be sent to Ronald McDonald House in Columbus, Ohio.
Being a part of such an amazing organization that gives back to the community as well as helps shape the wonderful women that go through this sorority has helped me become the strong and confident woman I am today. I have learned the value of team work, community service, and responsibility for a large amount of people.
